There are a lot of misconceptions about the reason why trucks in India have
Horn Ok Please written at the back. Even
Wikipedia's explanation only touches the truth (with a 5 foot pole) about this great Indian heritage.
Lucky for you, I have spent a good amount of research time and energy (but no funds, mind you) to bring the truth before you. So here it is—
Horn Ok Please, contrary to the common misconception is not a mis-arranged version of Horn Please Ok. It, in fact gives you clear-cut instructions of what you need to do if you wish to overtake the truck/lorry.
HORN instructs you to let out your vehicle's finest blare to let the truck driver know that he's blocking your way.
OK is the truck driver telling you that he hears you loud and clear, and he's giving you the the required space and overtake (Ok) hand signal.
PLEASE is the truck driver politely requesting you to overtake, as in 'Please go ahead'.
So that's the real truth behind Horn Ok Please, and don't let anyone else tell you otherwise.
